Dr. Pepper Sign (2014)
Dr. Pepper was introduced in Texas in December of 1885 as a new kind of drink, not fruity or like cola, but a soda pop with its very own distinct flavor. The marketing slogan "Dr. Pepper Time 10-2-4" promoted the idea that these hours were a good time for a "pick me up". Looking like a large bottle cap, the hours 10-2-4 are featured on the Dr. Pepper sign. Sitting atop a downtown building in Roanoke, Virginia, it is one of several distinctive neon signs, including H&C Coffee, and Mill Mountain Star, seen amidst the Roanoke Skyline. The Dr. Pepper sign has been a part of Roanoke Valley's history since the 1940s. In 1957 the Roanoke Valley was proclaimed the "Dr. Pepper Capitol of the World."
